Lipitor/Atorvastatin (Cholesterol medication)
Patients can use standardized preparations of curcuminoids from turmeric root instead of statins. A 2008 study released in Drugs in R&D found that turmeric can also correct the underlying pathology that triggers an oxidative stress in blood vessels. Unlike statins, turmeric has no side effects.
Corticosteroids (steroid medication)
Turmeric can relieve pain. A 1999 study published in Phytotherapy Research found that turmeric is as great as steroids when it comes to treating chronic anterior uveitis. Turmeric can be used instead of dexamethasone in cases of lung transplantation-related injury.
Metformin (diabetes drug)
In 2009, a group of researchers confirmed that turmeric activates AMPK, allowing a higher glucose uptake. It suppresses gluconeogenic gene expression in hepatoma cells, encouraging the glucose production in liver.
Oxaliplatin (Chemotherapy drug)
A 2007 study found that curcumin can provide the same effect as oxaliplatin, a chemo drug used to inhibit the proliferation in colorectal cell lines. Another 2004 study found that the combination of curcumin and resveratrol is as powerful as drugs used to mitigate tumor cells. Curcumin provides anti-cancer, chemosensitization and radiosensitization effect.
Scientists have found that curcumin reduces depressive behavior in lab animals. A 2015 study offered great promises and hope. The combination of curcumine and piperine reduces depression in people.
Reversing liver disease
Thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory power, curcumin reverses liver disease caused by alcohol. It has the power to reverse including elevated liver toxicity markers, lipid peroxidation and inflammatory markers.
Curcumin is better than chemo
A 2010 study released in TNO Nutrition and Food Research found that curcumin can treat cancer cell lines that can’t be affected by chemo drugs. It inhibits MRPI and MRP2. Curcumin can also destroy non-small cell lung carcinoma cell lines.
