Drinking Eight Glasses of Water and Other Health Tips That Are Just WRONG

There are healthy habits you have acquired from your parents who have acquired these habits from your grandparents. Just because your ancestors established a set of rules that “guarantee” your well-being does not mean that they are indeed right. Researchers are studying different methods in life and they have found that some of these healthy habits are not exactly as healthy as most people think.

Drinking Eight Glasses of Water Daily

You’ve probably heard about drinking at least eight glasses of water every day from some health professionals. Water is good for the body, but don’t force yourself to drink as much water as other people tell you. You need water, but the amount will depend on your age, the climate in the region you live in, your diet, and how active you are. Instead of counting how many glasses you consume each day, look at your urine which will tell you whether you need more water or less. If the color resembles lemonade or a lighter shade, you’re doing just fine.

Brushing Your Teeth Three Times a Day

Three times a day brushing your teeth is actually too much, but it’s too bad a habit if you brush your teeth only once. Brush your teeth only in the morning and at night. Extra brushing can actually destroy tooth enamel, which will expose you to gum and teeth problems. Most people tend to eat something acidic during lunch. Avoid brushing at this time of day and just floss instead.

Washing Hands after Applying Sunscreen

When you wash your hands after you put on sunscreen, you are obviously leaving a part of your body exposed to UV rays. This can lead to accelerated aging because you have just removed the sunscreen on your hands.

Countering Fever with Drugs

If your body temperature increases, it means your immune system is fighting the infection. Unfortunately, most people take the side of the infectious matter by taking pills that reduce fever. Instead of popping pills to your mouth, let the fever go its course. If you are cold, go under the covers. You should seek medical attention only if the fever is 103 degrees F and lasts for more than three days.

Showering Every Day

Unless your job is dealing with sewer pipes, experts do not recommend a daily shower. The outermost skin later locks in moisture, but frequent showering, especially with severe exfoliation, can destroy the oils and lipids in the skin layer.

You may think you have mastered these healthy habits, but the truth is they sabotage your well-being. Be truly healthy by learning the right ways as backed by new research.
